I am forgetful...forget to pick up dry cleaning, forget to get gas in the car, forget which day my dad's dr. appointment is...but one thing I never forget is to watch them grow.
This summer I am blessed to be able to just watch them grow. And they are growing in bounds...I think they saved it all for this summer when I can enjoy it.
Meli:
It started with her first hair cut. Not that it was long, she needed to tame that wild mane of hers. No tears, no nervousness, not one bit of hesitation. All for the lollipop at the end and the "beautiful hair".
In addition, she got the big girl bed. No need for the crib, "I am a big girl now." Not only did we remove the crib, we sold it ...with the glider and the pack n play. Another baby, or 2, will be cuddled, nursed, read to, loved on and layed to rest in them now. We will find other ways and places to love on her.
Finally, potty training. Her idea...we are still working on part of it but, she's pretty much got it. In fact, she is informs us often "I don't need a potty seat. I a big girl. I won't fall in...see."
Jojo:
She is reading. She lacks confidence and gives up easily, but she can do it. I have seen it. I have heard it. When she thinks I am not watching, I am. She plays Jump Start First Grade and shines. She picks up her BOB books and reads them to her sister.
She will be in Kinder! Kinder for crying out loud. I can't believe it. She is growing in her independence. Which I love and hate. The girl who would never leave my side, is going to the next aisle in Target. She doesn't want to hold my hand in the parking lot because she must. She needs it, to assert her independance. She will go to school knowing she can make her own decisions.
Finally, swimming. She is swimming. It is not graceful or swim team worthy. But from where she has come, she is swimming. She jumps from the diving board and swims across the pool. This from the girl who was afraid to put her head underwater just last year. It is amazing how it all just clicked.
I will continue to forget things as I always have but I will NOT forget to watch them grow.
It is all still too fast, but I am watching. As I am watching, I sing in my head...As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be.
