The party was great. Family all gathered in the backyard...swimming, eating, laughing, and playing. Pretty much the perfect way to spend the 4th of July. We look forward to sharing our home with all who care to join.
Then...the Motrin wore off.
Rewind a bit...a week ago, we had to leave the beach early on a beautiful Saturday with friends and stop at UrgiKids because J's ear was hurting, really hurting. Only to discover 2 ear infections. In and out of UrgiKids in 15 minutes with antibiotic in hand sure it would solve the problem.
Almost a week later, Friday before the holiday weekend, we found J still complaining of ear pain. I called our wonderful Dr. and explained that I was sure the Amoxicillin was not strong enough (since we had been through that before)and she called in a stronger antibiotic (the one she normally prescribes J when she has an ear infection). However, Friday night was tough, only about 4 hrs sleep for all but A. I thought for sure Saturday (the 4th) J would be feeling better.
She woke up in the morning, tears still flowing. To her dismay, J needed to stay home from the parade with Daddy. When A and I came home, it seemed she was coming back to us. I thought for sure the right antibiotic had surely kicked in and we were all in for a relief. All were running around, eating lunch, & playing in the pool. Then 6:00 hit and the meltdown began. Another rough night.
This morning, Sunday morning, we decided it best to take another trip to UrgiKids. Neil kindly took her while I stayed home with A. When he arrived, he found that the 15 minute trip from the week before would surely not happen this time. Almost 4 hours, a shot, and 2 prescription antibiotics later, we were informed she had a ruptured membrane in her ear.
Thank goodness we took her. By the end of the day she was on the mend. The day ended just perfectly. In the evening, all 4 of us hung out in the backyard. J watering the plants and playing in the new water toy, A and Neil playing in the pool, and me watching it all and reading a book. We had dinner, did some sparklers, as promised when J went to bed early on the 4th, and prepared for bed. Seems as though things are going back to the way they are supposed to be.
