She is not quite 5 and somtimes I forget. So mature for her age, right from the start. I ask her to help me with the dishes, watch her sister when I take out the trash, and clean up her room and make her bed. She does all of these things, sometimes with a whine. When she scribbles all over the paper, I tell her to make a pretty picture not just scribble-scrabble. When she does her "homework" I say, "Be sure it is neat". I need a tape in my head to tell me..."She's not even 5."
Then, I take a step back and soak it all in. She is a master hula-hooper; over 100 times in a row. She can memorize any song and is the one in the show who knows all the motions. She makes up songs with her sister, mostly about God's love for us. And listens for faries under the mushrooms we find on our walks. She wants to play "pretend I am 7". I need to let her be almost 5.
She is growing up fast...too fast for me.
